About Us:

William J. Kommers founded SeaStar Energy Corporation in 2006 for the purpose of providing a fast response method of delivering large amounts of municipal drinking water to water-needy cities in coastal areas of the world. Kommers, an accomplished entrepreneur in municipal utility and communication infrastructure businesses, had reasoned that the fastest, most economical way to provide needed drinking water to a coastal city was from an ocean-going ship equipped with seawater desalination systems. As envisioned, an appropriately equipped ship could be quickly dipatched to the coastal city, and once there begin seawater desalination operations and delivery of drinking water to the city.

To turn the business concept into a reality, SeaStar sought to enlist the association and expertise of the world's most qualified companies in the two (2) key areas of its business: ships and seawater desalination equipment. It was successful. The largest shipping company in the world, Maersk Line, Limited, is SeaStar's shipping partner, and provides all of the ships and ship operating personnel to SeaStar's water supply projects. In seawater desalination equipment systems, SeaStar is teamed with leading water treatment systems companies who provide and operate the seawater desalination equipment systems on board its ships. 

Intellectual Property:

The concept of desalinating seawater on ships and barrages has been well known for many years. However, the specific technologies and business methods which form the basis of Seastar's business are owed by SeaStar and covered by patent filings with the United States Patent & Trademark Office.

William J. Kommers, Founder:

Kommers has been the founder and CEO of a number of ground breaking, entrepreneurial businesses over the course of his career, including satellite broadcast television, distributed electric power systems using micro-turbine electric generators, municipal power generation for Pacific Island nations, and renewable energy technologies. In each of these activities, Kommers was fortunate in gaining the involvement of large enterprise companies who contributed their expertise, resources and industry presence to the various businesses. Over the years, this list of companies has included such names as News Corporation, General Electric Company, Allison Engine Company (Rolls-Royce plc), Caterpillar and AlliedSignal (Honeywell).
